Dear World Vision, I'm Still Waiting...

Hello again,
Now before you ask the pressing questions that are probably quite frankly on every one's minds

"How is the experiment going"
"Is she still alive?"
"Has the doctor advised her to end the experiment immediately in between changing her IV drip bag due to malnutrition?"

....I regret to inform all 2 of you that are reading this that the experiment has been briefly postponed.  Why?

Reason #1:  Well as you all know Halloween is quickly approaching and I can pretty much guarantee you that I will not be gallivanting around the town dressed as 1 half of Salt N Pepa sober...especially since the ensemble may or may not involve over sized bling, red pleather hats and a boom box looping the intro to Push It all night while wearing salt and pepper shaker costumes.

Drinking = $$ and last time I checked you can't even get on the bus for $1.33 a day never mind buy an over priced $8-$10 drink to help you get through the evening lookin-a-fool (see how this just isn't going to work out this month?)..looking at the math/my pride/and ability to not set myself up for failure, logic prevailed encouraging me to hold off until Nov.1st

Reason #2:   Just in case reason #1 didn't present a strong enough case...I am still eagerly awaiting my non automated response from World Vision.  I think someone needs to give them a little lesson on a thing I like to call counting to 3.  Today is day 4...and when you check your inbox 2-3 times a day starting on day 2 (because they make false promises of a 2-3 day turn around time) you become less than appreciative that such a large company is slacking and such an important concern is going unanswered!  While I attempt to stick it out another few days before calling the urgent request hot line (and I will call World Vision....I will call...) please see the screen shot of my pleasant request which has already received an automated response (who called that one in my first post??!!!)

That's all for now...short and partially sweet.  A longer more interesting post to follow once you know who gets their largely funded fully paid email response staff to get their S*** together!!

Until then adios amigos !!

Oh and to think I forgot to mention... (a little off topic but what the heck right!?)
I made festive Pillsbury Pumpkin cookies to celebrate October and my ability to still be able to eat such luxuries this month.... .... .... Mmm Mmm

... Oooopsies!!

Ever Wonder What It Would Be Like To Live On a $40 a Month Food Allowance Or If It Were Even Possible? Lets Find Out!

I have never blogged before...Why?  It seems nonsensical to write extended rants about something that can be condensed into a Facebook post or even shorter yet a... "Tweet"....or because my biggest fear is to find out I'm not nearly as funny as I know I am.  However under much coercion from my dear friend Samantha Clark (who also has a blog (check it out) http://www.ofsamanthaclark.blogspot.com/ (shoot look it's my first shout out gurl)....I thought I would give it a whirl.

Now I can't just open with a boring blog about me sitting in an office cubicle all day hitting refresh on facebook over and over hoping someone will communicate with me while blocking out the office lady chatter about The Young and the Restless, what's on sale at Sears this week or better yet....their sex lives (you would be surprised how inventive people get in their mid 30's to 40's!)  Welcome to a routine day at the office... had enough...saaaaamesies!  Which is why I have decided to open this blog with an experiment that I don't even know if I can complete...however watching me try will (fingers crossed) be more entertaining than the previously mentioned.

The experiment (I guess that is what I will entitle it) is to use the amount ($40) that World Vision requests as a donation per child as a food allowance for 1 month.  World Vision takes this amount and divides it up amongst the following:

  • Clean water

  • Improved health care

  • Better nutrition

  • Agricultural training

  • While going over the details today my best friend Heaven Lee Hytes being as supportive and helpful as only he can be thought he would be A smart ASS this morning by pointing out that "Just so you know 3rd world countries don't have clean drinking water" followed by a smirk (which I am sure was prompted by the satisfying vision he had of me drinking out of the toilet)  However do to cost of living here I will allot the entire $40 to food and do some free online research about 'better nutrition' and 'agricultural training' to make the experience as real as someone living in the city can. That works out to $10 a week which works out to a horrific $1.33 a day.

Now I know what you are thinking ...... this is more of a HEALTH RISK than eating McDonald's Chicken McNuggets that include the same chemical featured in the children's play substance Silly Putty reported by CNN!!
(Here is the article in case you are interested in that frightening little bit of information! http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/98373/98389/99063/7053815.html)

However I will do my best to obtain as many nutrients as I can for $1.33 a day but can't make any promises. This is where your feedback is welcome.  I would love some suggestions on how to get by...maybe some 2 ingredient meals? (you can skip the Kraft Dinner and hot dog casserole...that is the first and only thing already on my list)

I will also be sending off an email to World Vision requesting their detailed food plan with hopes of gaining some insight on just what exactly one can eat for just over a dollar a day.  I will post my email to them as well as their AUTOMATED genuine response!

I mean it must be possible right? lets take a look...
for example: a $.079 can of  chick peas  = 8g of fibre, 15% iron, 10g of protein, 170cal, 2g of fat and $0.54 left over!!.......which is 20 less calories and a whole $1 cheaper than the the lunch I had today....

Going forward I will be calling this week "prep week".  How does one prepare for such an event??  Well Let me tell you.  This next week will be devoted to shrinking my stomach, bulking up on vitamins, cutting coupons and mentally preparing for the TORTURING educationally enlightening experience ahead.

I look forward to my first official experiment and sharing it with you all.
I will keep you posted (literally..with posts ha!! har har hardy har (see told you I was funny) Ooooo  another bracket in bracket ...awkward)
Until we type again... my FRIENDS ! .... ummmm awkward again.
