I have never blogged before...Why? It seems nonsensical to write extended rants about something that can be condensed into a Facebook post or even shorter yet a... "Tweet"....or because my biggest fear is to find out I'm not nearly as funny as I know I am. However under much coercion from my dear friend Samantha Clark (who also has a blog (check it out)
http://www.ofsamanthaclark.blogspot.com/ (shoot look it's my first shout out gurl)....I thought I would give it a whirl.
Now I can't just open with a boring blog about me sitting in an office cubicle all day hitting refresh on facebook over and over hoping someone will communicate with me while blocking out the office lady chatter about The Young and the Restless, what's on sale at Sears this week or better yet....their sex lives (you would be surprised how inventive people get in their mid 30's to 40's!) Welcome to a routine day at the office... had enough...saaaaamesies! Which is why I have decided to open this blog with an experiment that I don't even know if I can complete...however watching me try will (fingers crossed) be more entertaining than the previously mentioned.
The experiment (I guess that is what I will entitle it) is to use the amount ($40) that
World Vision requests as a donation per child as a food allowance for 1 month.
World Vision takes this amount and divides it up amongst the following:
Clean water
Improved health care
Better nutrition
Agricultural training
While going over the details today my best friend
Heaven Lee Hytes being as supportive and helpful as only he can be thought he would be
A smart
ASS this morning by pointing out that "Just so you know 3rd world countries don't have clean drinking water" followed by a smirk (which I am sure was prompted by the satisfying vision he had of me drinking out of the toilet) However do to cost of living here I will allot the entire $40 to food and do some free online research about 'better nutrition' and 'agricultural training' to make the experience as real as someone living in the city can. That works out to $10 a week which works out to a horrific $1.33 a day.
Now I know what you are thinking ...... this is more of a HEALTH RISK than eating
McDonald's Chicken McNuggets that include the same chemical featured in the children's play substance Silly Putty reported by CNN!!
(Here is the article in case you are interested in that frightening little bit of information!
http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/98373/98389/99063/7053815.html)
However I will do my best to obtain as many nutrients as I can for $1.33 a day but can't make any promises. This is where your feedback is welcome. I would love some suggestions on how to get by...maybe some 2 ingredient meals? (you can skip the Kraft Dinner and hot dog casserole...that is the first and only thing already on my list)
I will also be sending off an email to
World Vision requesting their detailed food plan with hopes of gaining some insight on just what exactly one can eat for just over a dollar a day. I will post my email to them as well as their
AUTOMATED genuine response!
I mean it must be possible right? lets take a look...
for example: a $.079 can of chick peas = 8g of fibre, 15% iron, 10g of protein, 170cal, 2g of fat and $0.54 left over!!.......which is 20 less calories and a whole $1 cheaper than the the lunch I had today....
Going forward I will be calling this week "prep week". How does one prepare for such an event?? Well Let me tell you. This next week will be devoted to shrinking my stomach, bulking up on vitamins, cutting coupons and mentally preparing for the
TORTURING educationally enlightening experience ahead.
I look forward to my first official experiment and sharing it with you all.
I will keep you posted (literally..with posts ha!! har har hardy har (see told you I was funny) Ooooo another bracket in bracket ...awkward)
Until we type again... my
FRIENDS ! .... ummmm awkward again.
